This is an outline of a speech that I did for English. In this speech, I talked about three objects and why they are important to me.

 

David Silverman once said, “Objects are very beautiful and important in and of themselves, but also because of the story they tell.”  Hi, my name is Taylor Streich. We all have objects that are important to us. Some remind us of memories, places, people, and even our own identity. All of these are shown in my three objects. The three objects that I am going to talk about represent something special in my life. First, I will talk about my faith and how a cross represents three important things to me. Then I will talk about my family loves to travel and Disney. Then last, I will talk about how and why being a husker is important to me.

 

For my first object I brought was a wooden cross necklace. I received this cross in 3rd grade from my teacher, Mrs. Lorenzen. This cross is not only important to me because it represents my faith and what I believe, but also helps me to remember 3 important things. God sent his one and only son to die on the cross for us, so we can live with Him in heaven for eternal life. But, we already know that. In the middle of the cross, it has flames or water droplets. I thought they were flames, but I asked a couple of other people and they saw water. In the bible there are many recurring themes of water and fire, here are some examples. Last year we read, The Horse and His Boy, in that book the theme of water came up several times. The water can remind us of baptism and how we are made new through Christ. But what about the fire? In Revelation 1:14 it says, “The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.” The context from this verse is describing Christ and how glorious he is. So, whenever I see this cross, I not only see Jesus’ love, but also water representing a new beginning, and flames representing the powerful and almighty Christ.

 

For my second object, I have a Disney magic band. If you don’t know what this is used for, It is used for your hotel key, ride tickets, fastfasses, reservations, purchases, and so on and so forth. This is important to me because my family loves Disney! We go several times a year. I enjoy Disney because it is relaxing, fun, and I get to spend time with my family. Our family has made so many memories that will last a lifetime from our trips here.

 

My last object that I bought was the 2017 mock up nation championship volleyball ring. If you don’t know, my mom is a processor of agronomy and horticulture at the University of Nebraska. My neighbor was also a defensive specialist and a 2 time national champion that played for the Huskers. So, I have grown up in a family and a community that loves the Huskers. We go to all of the football and volleyball games and enjoy going to as many other sports games as we can. Being a Husker is important to me because I live in Nebraska and I have made many close relationships from living here. 

 

Many things are important to me, like Disney and being a Husker. But, most importantly Jesus is my rock and foundation. Without Him, we are dead in sin, but because He died on the cross, I have the opportunity to live my life. I can enjoy doing what I love, like being a husker and going to Disney. All because Jesus died for me.
