Colton’s Remarkable Story

Today is Wednesday March 5, 2003. Today I share the story of Colton Burpo. Colton is a four-year-old boy and who lives in Imperial, Nebraska. Imperial is about 290 miles west of the capital city of Lincoln. Colton was recently sent to the hospital. He had stomach aches and was continually throwing up.
I first witnessed his mother, Sonja, and his father, Todd, rushing little Colton to the hospital. At first, the doctor misdiagnosed his condition and thought it was the stomach flu, but, they still continued to do tests.
From an interview, his father said, “I might’ve been in my thirties, but over the last few months, I’d learned only too well what it was like to feel so sick and miserable that you just wanted to cry. My heart hurt for my son.”
Next, what the doctor told them would not only change Coltons life, but also the life of his parents. Eyewitnesses shared that the doctor pulled them into the hallway and told them that Coltons appendix burst and an infection was growing inside of him. Colton could die and would need surgery right away. Colton’s dad said, “While Colton was laying on his hospital bed the shadow of death hit me. I was seeing it on my son. My not-quite-four-year-old son. The sight hit me like a bullet.”
Then, without wasting any time they went straight into surgery. Many people said that the family was filled with emotions and tears. They were overwhelmed with sadness.
Finally, after many long hours, the doctor finally came out. The doctor said that he was done with surgery and their son was recovering.
The church communities around Imperial have been praying for Colton in hoping God’s peace would be with Colton and his family. Colton is still recovering. We will continue this story and will provide updates whenever we hear anything new.
